چکیده

Only few artificial limbs for total upper arm replacement includes other active joints than those of hand and elbow. The main cause is the difficulty to the set up the limb command system. Some components of artificial upper arm have been recently designed and built by the our research group. The full arm consists of a two active axes shoulder and a single axis elbow, plus a commercial hand. The project comprises the development of the electronic boards, including motors’ control firmware and system command software. Many command strategies have been tested using a virtual reality tool, and some command sources have been evaluated, including BCI signals and head movements. The virtual training allows to check the patient attitude and build the learning curves associated to command methods.

Occupational Therapy: Training Postural Control for Functional Upper Limb Prosthesis Use

Healthcare professionals working with upper limb (UL) amputees more often than not, have the privilege of working with a generally healthy patient population. Traumatic loss of the upper limb in previously active and productive persons does not remove their intrinsic motivation for active participation in life. As they recover from the abrupt change in their functional status, this innate drive...

Consumer concerns and the functional value of prostheses to upper limb amputees.

This paper reports a study of 66 upper limb amputees in County Funen, Denmark who were visited in their homes by the author. The purpose of the study was to evaluate the consumer concerns about their prostheses and to see if these were related to cessation of prosthetic use. It was also intended to estimate functional levels of both prosthetic users and non-users. The number of amputees investi...

Elbow Prosthesis for Partial or Total Upper Limb Replacements

While the prosthetic systems for hands amputation are fairly common, the active prostheses for the other joints of the upper limb are rarer. In addition to commercial reasons undoubtedly related to the low number of trans-humeral amputations than the hands amputations and to the exiguous number of shoulder disarticulation, technical reasons are also crucial. Among which, the electro-mechanical ...

Visualisation of upper limb activity using spirals: A new approach to the assessment of daily prosthesis usage

BACKGROUND Current outcome measures used in upper limb myoelectric prosthesis studies include clinical tests of function and self-report questionnaires on real-world prosthesis use. Research in other cohorts has questioned both the validity of self-report as an activity assessment tool and the relationship between clinical functionality and real-world upper limb activity. Previously,1 we report...

Conceptualization of Design of Prosthetic Robotic Linkage for Human Limb Rehabilitation

The first phase work of the project involving the conceptualization of mechanical design of an active knee prosthesis linkage mechanism is proposed in this paper. For patients needing limb movement rehabilitation with impaired upper or lower limb joint functions and also for otherwise healthy persons suffering muscle weakness syndrome, this paper proposes an active linkage mechanism along with ...
